Ground & Test Devices
Overview
  • Ground and Test Devices are used to ground the upper or lower stabs in a circuit breaker cell. This process grounds all three phases and is normally used during initial installation and during normal maintenance procedures. When inserted in a circuit breaker cell and closed it solidly grounds the equipment for safety or other tests on connected cables. G&T Devices are available either as a manually operated or electrically operated device. The electrically operated version allows the operator to be removed from close proximity of the switchgear when grounding occurs and is the safest approach.

  • Ground and Test Devices are normally used during the initial installation and commissioning procedures to make certain the equipment has been properly installed, during normal maintenance operations and for tests where the switchgear side of the circuit needs to be solidly grounded such as resistance tests on power cables.

Not available for 63kA rated switchgear.

  • Ground and Test Devices may be constructed to ground the 3-pole upper stabs, the 3-pole lower stabs or all 6-pole upper and lower stabs. The manual version requires operator to manually ground the poles from directly in front of the switchgear and the electrical version allows operator to be 25 feet removed and ground the poles utilizing a control unit.

  • A Ground and Test device functions as an integral part of your medium voltage distribution system. Powell offers a full line of devices for both our PowlVac® and Power/Vac® medium voltage ANSI switchgear products. These devices are used extensively during initial commissioning for verification of installation integrity. After energization these devices provide a method for operators or service personnel to ground a feeder circuit for maintenance and verification procedures.

Both mechanical operation and electrical operation is available depending upon the needs of your specific equipment and procedures. Contact a Powell representative today to discuss your needs and which variation is appropriate.

  • A Powell Ground and Test Device can be incorporated into an existing equipment project. Powell will project manage the process for you. Contact us today to discuss adding this important safety feature to your equipment.

If not included with your original project, they are readily available as an after market purchase. Our Sales and Project Management teams can research your original project and determine the exact device that will fit your installed equipment. Additionally they can discuss with you the available options so that you get the exact functionality your desire.
