A Great Work Environment
Powell is committed to safety in the workplace, but that commitment goes beyond the workplace. We are focused on each employee's health and welfare — on and off the job — because our employees' overall health can impact performance, as well as the performance of their co-workers. So, through health assessments, training, and support, Powell seeks to enhance the well-being of every employee.
One of the keys to Powell's success is our Continuous Improvement Teams. At every Powell factory, team members – production, management, technicians, engineers – work together to establish quarterly goals, handle risk assessments, develop recommendations, and follow through to make approved changes. Hundreds of safety projects are tackled each year, with results shared throughout the company.
Every Powell facility has safety goals — it's a management imperative. Having goals is not quite enough, though. Every employee must commit to those safety goals and specific safety metrics are reported monthly.
The results? Major changes to factory floors, more ergonomic workstations, even improved training and safety communications have reduced injury frequency and severity rates. In fact, Powell facilities continue to be among the safest in the world.
How We Rate
Compared to other equipment manufacturers, Powell leads the way in workplace safety. We have injury rates below those common even in non-manufacturing sectors. Experience Modification Rate (EMR) is a number used by insurance companies to gauge both past cost of injuries and future chances of risk. The lower the EMR of your business the better. An EMR of 1.0 is considered the industry average.
